Full Time - 37½ hours per week

Oxford Gene Technology (OGT) provides world-class genetics research solutions to leading clinical and academic research institutions.  A rapidly growing company with state-of-the-art facilities and over 100 employees based at our head-office in Begbroke, Oxfordshire, or at our Cytocell® office in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire.  With customers in over 60 countries worldwide and ambitious expansion plans, OGT has a strong reputation and increasing share in the large and growing genomic medicine market.

Due to continued growth we have a fantastic opportunity for someone to join the IT team, based at our Begbroke, Oxfordshire office.  The IT team is split over two sites, supporting around 130 users.

This role is providing onsite helpdesk support, as well as supporting users at the Cambridge office and remote users covering UK, US, Canada & Europe

Reporting to the IT Manager, this role will have a wide variety of duties:

  • Respond proactively to issues raised via helpdesk cases
  • Take ownership of support calls and resolving issues
  • Provide a positive attitude to supporting users
  • Creating, actioning and closing helpdesk tickets
  • Support users with Apple IOS and Android mobile devices
  • Perform administration tasks within Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange
  • Install Microsoft windows operating systems on laptops and desktop computers
  • Update and maintain our Microsoft windows desktops and laptops including antivirus, firmware and drivers
  • Administer the Horizon portal telephone management system
  • Provide windows server support
  • Maintain and monitor IT backups
  • Update the IT asset register and licensing database
  • Assist the company in achieving Cyber Essentials certification
  • Communicate with IT suppliers and solution providers


The successful candidate will also work closely with the Quality team to maintain accreditation for ISO27001 audits.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Previous experience in a similar IT role or looking to develop their career into a hands-on technical support
  • Experience in providing first line support within a Windows 7/10 environment
  • Experience with working with Microsoft Servers operating systems
  • Experience and confidence in supporting customers remotely
  • Positive can-do attitude, able to embrace change and adapt accordingly
  • Self-sufficient in looking for and fixing issues
  • Conscientious, keen to get things done professionally and effectively
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to patiently and professionally interact with users at all levels of the organisation, responding positively to requests and issues
  • Flexibility in supporting users out of hours
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Good time management, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks
  • Basic knowledge of ISO27001 would be desirable for this role or the successful candidate must have a keen interest to develop knowledge in this area
  • A driving licence, as travel to our Cambridge site may be required occasionally
